North Korea launched a ballistic missile at South Korea, which responded with three missiles, including the high-precision AGM-84H/L SLAM-ER with a range of 270 km.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula continue to rise. On November 2, North Korea and the Republic of Korea exchanged missile strikes.
Here's What We Know
North Korea first launched at least 17 missiles. One of them fell into the open sea 60 kilometers off the South Korean coast, outside the state's territorial waters. President Yoon Suk-yeol called it "essentially an act of territorial invasion.
The South Korean air force pilots then fired three missiles toward the North's line of boundary (the disputed sea border between the two countries). According to official data, one of the missiles was an AGM-84H/K SLAM-ER. This is an American high-precision missile with a range of 270 kilometers and a warhead weighing 360 kilograms.
The military called the DPRK's actions a serious provocation. Due to Pyongyang's activity, South Korea was forced to close some air routes east of the peninsula.
