German F126 frigates receive Atlas Elektronik anti-submarine defense systems
The German company Atlas Elektronik was awarded a contract to supply anti-submarine defense systems for the F126 frigates.
Here's What We Know
The company has signed an agreement with Thales Netherlands, the main partner of frigate manufacturer Damen. Under the contract, Atlas Elektronik will supply two shipboard modules for countering enemy submarines. The company will also develop an onshore complex on which the German navy can train.
The new modules will use the latest active and passive sonar technology. They will enable the frigates to carry out long-range missions and form an extensive subsurface picture. The modular approach will enable the ships to be outfitted with different equipment depending on the type of mission.
Damen signed a €4.6 billion contract with Germany several years ago to produce four F126 frigates. The first ship will be ready by 2028. In addition to anti-submarine defense systems, the frigates will receive Lockheed Martin Mk41 vertical launch systems, Leonardo Vuclano naval guns and Hensoldt TRS-4D radars.
