The Turkish defense company Aselsan has unveiled a new drone. This time it is a surface drone. It is called MIR and in simple words is an unmanned boat.

Here's What We Know

Although the ability to operate without a crew is a key feature of the MIR, the drone supports manual control. The novelty is aimed at fighting against submarines that are on the surface.

Aselsan is in no hurry to reveal the technical parameters of the surface drone. So far, all that is known is that the boat will receive electronic warfare equipment, sonar and missiles made by Roketsan.

MIR will be able to work in tandem with other manned and unmanned ships. The boat will be commissioned as soon as the Turkish navy improves sonar. The MIR is expected to take part not only in military, but also in search and rescue operations.
