U.S. sends warplanes to Iran after information about possible attack on Saudi Arabia
Amid rising tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the United States has sent military planes to the region, which are in the Persian Gulf.
Here's What We Know
Intelligence reported this week that Iran is preparing to strike ballistic missiles and barraged munitions at sites inside Saudi Arabia. The Washington Post writes that the airlift is a sign of the strengthening of relations between Washington and Riyadh, despite disagreements over oil production.
The conflict is that Saudi Arabia has agreed to reduce daily production of "black gold" by 2 million barrels. U.S. authorities say that such a move will lead to higher oil prices, which will benefit Russia.
As for sending planes to Saudi Arabia, the U.S. prefers not to disclose details of the operation. But it is known that Washington has assembled a powerful air force in the region, including fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters.
