Norway will order four more K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers along with K10 transport and loaders

The Norwegian Armed Forces have decided to increase the fleet of self-propelled artillery units from South Korean company Hanwa.

Here's What We Know

At the end of 2017, the Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA) signed a contract with Hanwha to supply two dozen K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers and six ammunition delivery vehicles. Now we have learned of the signing of an option that increases the purchase of howitzers and ammunition delivery vehicles by four and eight units, respectively.

The deliveries will last for two years. The Norwegian Armed Forces will thus have 28 K9 Thunder self-propelled artillery pieces and 14 ammunition delivery vehicles in 2024.

The K9 Thunder is equipped with a 155 mm cannon and can hit targets up to 40 km away. The fighting vehicle is capable of reaching a speed of 67 km/h. The Norwegian version of the howitzer is called Versatile Indirect Artillery System (VIDAR). It has the ODIN fire control system.
