The German frigates of the F125 and F126 projects will receive Vulcano guided munitions of 127 mm caliber.

Here's What We Know

The German Navy tested the Vulcano. The tests took place off the northern coast of Norway. FGS Rheinland-Pfalz class frigate Baden-Württemberg (Project F125) took part in them. During the test, the ship was able to hit the target by firing several shells at it.

The 127mm Vulcano is one of Leonardo's three guided munitions. There are also 76mm and 155mm calibers. GPS is used for guidance and the deviation from the target is less than 5 meters. The maximum range of fire is 80 km.

The contract between the German Navy and Leonardo is for four years. In the near future Germany will receive the first batch of Vulcano guided missiles. They are oriented on the frigates of the F126 project, but the ships will enter service only by 2028. Until then, the munitions will be used by the Baden-Württemberg class frigates (F125).
