At AirShow China 2022, a mockup of a Chinese sixth-generation fighter jet was demonstrated for the first time.

Here's What We Know

China and the United States are actively working to create a sixth generation fighter. The American aircraft is being developed under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program and will replace the F-22 Raptor. The cost of the new generation fighter will be several hundreds of millions of dollars. Over time, costs will decrease, but it will still be more expensive than the F-35 Lightning II (~$100 million).

The U.S. Air Force is trying everything possible to get a sixth-generation fighter jet faster than China. And the count goes not by years (both planes can be presented in 2035), but by months. The head of the U.S. Air Force Aviation Command, Mark Kelly, believes that the United States must achieve air supremacy at least a month earlier than the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China.

There is virtually no information about the Chinese sixth-generation fighter jet. Not only that, the final version of the aircraft may be very different from the mock-up presented at AirShow China 2022. It is assumed that the fighter will be based on one of the Russian Su planes. The American NGAD will be a completely new development. In conclusion, we would like to add that Lockheed Martin recently published new images of the future aircraft.
