CASIC has developed a system that can destroy air targets at distances up to 18 kilometers - it got the DK-1 radar, the HQ-17AE, the QW-12 man-portable air defense system and the ZR-1500 unmanned module
Here's What We Know
The new solution has no specific name, at least not yet officially announced. It includes the QW-12 man-portable surface-to-air missile system, the HQ-17AE surface-to-air missile system, the DK-1 radar, the ZR-1500 unmanned module and the ZK-K20 control system, responsible for processing sensor information and responding to aerial targets.
The HQ-17AE short-range surface-to-air missile system attracts the most attention in this technology. CASIC representatives say that although the system is focused on eliminating drones, this SAM can shoot down cruise missiles, helicopters, tactical air-to-ground missiles and aircraft with a fixed wing.
The HQ-17AE has a maximum range of 20 km, but the DK-1 can detect targets within 500-18,000 meters. CASIC states that the radar is capable of simultaneously detecting more than two dozen drones.
The surface-to-air missile system simultaneously destroys up to four aerial targets. In case it is necessary to eliminate a cheap drone, it is possible not to waste shells, but to create electromagnetic interference to suppress the UAV.
Another component of the system is the ZR-1500 unmanned module. It can shoot down aircraft, helicopters and drones within a radius of up to 5 km. It includes 18 different missiles and a machine gun.
