The U.S. Army has a contract with Lockheed Martin to produce GMLRS rockets for the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS.

Here's What We Know

The United States has been officially supplying Ukraine with M142 HIMARS high-mobility artillery systems with GMLRS projectiles since late June. Their stocks are not unlimited, so the U.S. Army signed two contracts with Lockheed Martin on October 21 and November 2 for the production of guided missiles to replace those transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

William LaPlante, Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Support, said in a Nov. 14 statement that the signing demonstrates the significant impact the GMLRS have on the battlefield. The cost of the contracts is $521 million, and the production of GMLRS will be funded by an additional Congressional appropriation in support of Ukraine.
