Iran recently announced the development of its first hypersonic missile. Although many experts do not believe this, Israel does not want to take any unnecessary risks.

Here's What We Know

Iran is armed with ballistic missiles of the Sejil family. They are capable of striking Tel Aviv 6-7 minutes after launch. The new Iranian hypersonic missile can reach the Israeli capital in only 4 minutes.

There is almost no information about the missile itself. The Iranian military claims that it can reach speeds of over Mach 5 (6125 km/h). To intercept hypersonic missiles, advanced air defense systems are needed. One such system is the Arrow-4.

After information about the Iranian missile emerged, Israel accelerated the pace of Arrow-4 development. At this stage, the Ministry of Defense is making efforts to develop a better early warning system that will allow detection of missiles (including hypersonic ones) at long range.

The Missile Defense Directorate in the Israeli Ministry of Defense is responsible for coordinating such projects. They are carried out by some Israeli defense companies. The programs are funded by special budgets allocated due to the need to combat a "very critical threat”. All details about the Arrow-4 are classified for now.
