Raytheon and MBDA Deutschland will launch production of Patriot interceptor missiles in Germany
Matra BAE Dynamics Alenia (MBDA), represented by its MBDA Deutschland division, and Raytheon Missiles & Defense have agreed to start production of Patriot missiles in Germany.
Here's What We Know
Raytheon and MBDA already have a joint venture in Germany called COMLOG. It now plays a key role in the maintenance and logistics of Patriot air defense systems that are deployed in the country.
The new roadmap developed by Raytheon and MBDA calls for the German military to meet demand for Guidance Enhanced Missile-Tactical (GEM-T) interceptors by starting interceptor production at the COMLOG facility. In addition, Germany will be able to supply GEM-T to partners armed with Patriot surface-to-air missile systems.
The GEM-T is one of the Patriot anti-missile systems available to U.S. and international customers. The interceptor provides enhanced capabilities against tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles or enemy aircraft. The MBDA says the cooperation with Raytheon will provide ideal conditions for deploying Patriot in Germany by 2048.
