In the Russian cities of Engels and Saratov, the morning began not with coffee, but with the arrival of a kamikaze drone at a military airfield.

Here's What We Know

On December 5 at about 22:00 (EDT) or 19:00 (PDT), an unmanned aerial vehicle struck the Engels-1 base airfield, where strategic airplanes Tu-95MS and Tu-160 capable of carrying nuclear weapons were located. The drone fell on the runway, damaging two planes as a result.

The missile-carrying bombers, which are stationed at the Engels airfield, are often used by the Russian Federation during massive missile strikes against Ukraine. The city itself is about 700 kilometers from the front line.

The attack on the military base is another image defeat for Russia. It demonstrates that even an ordinary kamikaze drone can attack a base with strategic bombers that can launch missiles with nuclear warheads.

MAXAR published satellite images of the airfield the other day. Judging by them, there was also military transport aircraft AN-124 at the base, in addition to the Tu-160 and Tu-95MS.
