The Royal Navy wants an underwater drone called the Cetus.

Here's What We Know

The manufacturer of the drone will be a British company MSubs. It has been awarded a contract worth almost $19 million (£15.4 million). Cetus will be the largest underwater drone in Europe. It will be 12 meters long, 2.2 meters in diameter and weigh 17,000 kg.

Cetus will have a range of about 1,800 km. It will be designed to provide protection for critical underwater infrastructure. The Royal Navy plans to get the drone in 2024.

The U.K. Navy has drones to search for mines and is working on Pacific 24 unmanned boats, which are currently in the testing phase. The service plans to create a full-fledged fleet of underwater drones, and the Cetus project is one step in that direction.
