An unknown drone attacked another Russian airfield and damaged a Tu-22M3 strategic rocket bomber armed with an X-22 missile
On December 5, unknown drones attacked Russian airfields where strategic aviation aircraft are deployed.
Here's What We Know
We wrote that a drone damaged two planes at the Engels-1 airfield. There were strategic bombers Tu-95MS and Tu-160, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, as well as military transport aircraft An-124.
Meanwhile, another drone attacked the Digilevo military base near Ryazan. It damaged a Tu-22M3 missile carrier with hull number RF-34110 ("02" red). It was already equipped with Kh-22 cruise missile.
It is possible that the aircraft was preparing for a massive strike on Ukraine, which took place a few hours later. As part of that, Russia launched 70 missiles, including the X-22, but the Ukrainian Air Force shot down more than 85% of them.
Russian media claimed that the strike on the airfield was carried out by a Soviet Tu-141 Strizh drone (pictured below). The unmanned aircraft, which weighs 5.3 tons, can reach a speed of 1,000 km/h and has a flight radius of 1,000 km.
