U.S. President Joe Biden has agreed to send Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine, but on one condition.

Here's What We Know

The day before, CNN wrote, quite unexpectedly, that the United States was developing a plan to send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. Now The Washington Post is reporting that President Biden will approve the transfer of the American anti-aircraft missile systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

However, before the Patriots go to destroy Russian missiles and drones, the Defense Department must prepare a report answering several questions. The Pentagon will send a document to the White House outlining the legal aspects of sending the air defense systems and the impact on the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Associated Press reports that the United States will provide Ukraine with one MIM-104 Patriot battery from its stockpile. Moreover, it can be officially announced as early as tomorrow, December 15. The battery consists of up to eight launchers, a radar station, and a control center.

The Patriot battery with four launchers costs about $1 billion. The launch of one missile costs $3 million. The Ukrainian military will be trained to operate the Patriot in Germany.
