The Czech Republic wants to buy Spyder LR air defense systems to replace the Soviet 2K12 "Kub" SAMs
The Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic is negotiating the supply of Spyder surface-to-air missile systems produced by the Israeli company Rafael.
Here's What We Know
In mid-autumn last year the Czech Republic negotiated the purchase of four batteries of Spyder LR surface-to-air missile systems. With their help Czech airspace defense will be strengthened and the level of critical infrastructure protection will be increased.
After the purchase, the Spyder LRs will be in service for 20 years. Israel's air defense system is effective against aircraft, helicopters, drones and missiles.
Deliveries of the Spyder LT will start by the end of this year. One battery consists of four launchers, transport-loading vehicles and a fire control vehicle. All of them will be based on a Tatra 815 chassis with 8x8 wheel configuration.
The Spyder LT will replace the Soviet 2K12 KUB surface-to-air missile system, which has been in service with the Czech Army for 40 years. The Israeli system is designed to intercept air targets up to 20 km in altitude and up to 80 km range.
