After the successful destruction of Russian military facilities in Ukraine, Australia also wants to buy HIMARS with ATACMS, GMLRS and GMLRS-ER missiles
The Australian Department of Defense has announced the purchase of the M142 HIMARS High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.
Here's What We Know
The cost of the contract is not specified, as well as the number of missile systems. But it is likely that Australia will buy 20 HIMARS for $385 million, which is the deal that was approved by the U.S. State Department in late spring of last year.
The contract will include the purchase of not only HIMARS, but also missiles. The State Department approved the delivery of ATACMS ballistic missiles to Australia with a range of about 300 km. Australia also plans to receive GMLRS-ER and GMLRS rockets, which are used in Ukraine.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense announced the purchase of NSM missiles for Anzac-class frigates and Hobart-class destroyers. The Australian government has allocated more than $1 billion for new weapons.
