BAE Systems has officially announced that it has signed a contract to produce homing systems for smart bombs that are equipped with the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) kit.

Here's What We Know

The contract value was $12 million. The customer is the United States Air Force. The deal involves the development of multi-mode homing head within the QUICKSINK project.

The program aims to create low-cost air-launched munitions that can be used to destroy enemy maritime threats. The U.S. Air Force demonstrated the QUICKSINK concept about a year ago.

It involves the use of "smart" bombs with a set of JDAM equipment to destroy enemy ships. The multi-mode homing head developed by BAE Systems will further increase the accuracy of the munition.
