German authorities are thinking about strengthening the country's air defence system. To achieve the goal, Germany will allocate billions of euros to be spent on the purchase of domestic and foreign air defence systems.

Here's What We Know

The government is in talks with Diehl Defense to develop eight IRIS-T air defence systems. They have a maximum intercept range of 75km and 24km in range and altitude respectively. Approximately €2-3 billion will be invested in the production of advanced anti-aircraft missile systems.

Another €4 billion will be spent on the purchase of Israel's Arrow 3 air defense system. The United States approved the deal last autumn. Approval was required due to the fact that Boeing was involved in the development of the weapon.

As you understood, about €7 billion will be allocated for IRIS-T and Arrow 3. But the total sum of air defense system strengthening project will make €17 billion. Germany will spend €10 billion for purchase of American Patriot PAC-3 surface-to-air missile systems, which can destroy targets at an altitude up to 30 km and at a range of up to 160 km.
