It's official: China's YJ-21 hypersonic missile can reach speeds of 12,348km/h

The People's Liberation Army of China has officially released information on the speed of the YJ-21 hypersonic missile. The test took place in 2022.

China, like the United States, is working on air-, land- and ship-based hypersonic weapons. The YJ-21 belongs to the latter type. According to the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the Chinese missile can reach speeds 10 times the speed of sound - 12,348km/h (10 Mach).

The military also claims that no existing ship-based air defence system is currently capable of intercepting the YJ-21. The missile will be integrated into Type 055 battle cruisers, which have 128 vertical launch cells, 130mm H/PJ-38 guns, Yu-8 anti-submarine missiles and Yu-7 light torpedoes.
