The Spanish Armed Forces are going to deploy a NASAMS air defence system in Estonia.

Here's What We Know

This concerns two batteries of NASAMS air defence systems. This was announced by the Estonian Defence Minister after he met with his Spanish counterpart in Brussels on February 14. The Spanish air defence systems will be on standby in Estonia from April to July. By the way, Estonia plans to close the contract to buy its own air defence system by summer.

The system was developed in the early 1990s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence with the participation of the US company Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. The range of AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles is 20-40 km, and its maximum altitude is 20 km.
