BAE receives $466m to supply M109A7 Paladin howitzers to the US Army

BAE Systems will supply the US Army with an additional batch of M109 self-propelled artillery systems. The contract was announced on the official website of the US Department of Defence.

Here's What We Know

The Pentagon will provide BAE with $466 million. The contract runs through December 2026 and work will take place at plants in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan and South Carolina.

BAE Systems will supply the US Army with the latest M109A7 Paladin self-propelled artillery systems. The exact number is not mentioned on the US Department of Defense website. Along with the howitzers, the military will receive M992 transport and loaders.

The upgrade to the M109A7 brought a new fire control system and an improved semi-automatic loading system. The upgrade also introduced an electric drive system to eliminate the need for hydraulic gun control systems and increased the amount of ammunition available.

Flashback

The M109A7 Paladin is based on the M2 Bradley chassis. It has a maximum road speed of 67 km/h and a cruising range of 300 km. The howitzer is equipped with 155 mm caliber cannon and can hit targets at ranges up to 30 km.
