Poland continues to arm itself by announcing a big new contract.

Here's What We Know

According to the country's Ministry of Defence, Poland will purchase 1,400 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles for its troops. The contract will be implemented by local companies Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and Huta Stalowa Wola. Incidentally, this is Poland's largest military purchase in the last 50 years.

The cost of the contract is not disclosed by the Ministry of Defence, but presumably we are talking about more than $10,000,000,000. The first BMPs will be delivered to Poland as early as this week. They are planned to be used for tests.

Flashback

The Borsuk BMP also boasts a ZSSW-30 with Bushmaster MK 44/S cannon, a UKM-2000C 7.62mm machine gun, and twin Spike-LR anti-tank guided missile launchers. The Borsuk has a crew of three. The vehicle is capable of carrying up to 10 infantrymen. The infantry fighting vehicle is powered by a MTU 8V-199-TE20 engine with 720 horsepower. It allows the Borsuk to reach speeds of up to 65 km/h on the highway.
