Kratos received $49.57m to supply BQM-177A SSAT airborne targets to the US Navy

Kratos Defense & Solutions has signed another contract with the United States Navy for BQM-177A Sub-Sonic Aerial Targets (SSATs). The service plans to purchase a total of three batches of drones.

Here's What We Know

The BQM-177A is an unmanned aerial vehicle that is used to train aircraft and ships' air defence systems. The drone simulates anti-ship missiles, can reach speeds close to the speed of sound (M=0.96 / 1185 km/h) and can fly at a minimum altitude of 2 meters.

Kratos Defense & Solutions has been awarded a $49.67m contract under which the company will supply the US Navy with 55 unmanned targets and additional equipment. Work will take place at plants in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Sacramento, California.

In the future, the US Navy wants to purchase two more batches of unmanned aerial targets. The total contract value may rise to $227.65 million.
