Spain wants to buy more Eurofighter Typhoons if 20 previously ordered planes are delivered on time
The Spanish Air Force could receive more Eurofighter Typhoon fighters. But that depends on whether the current order is fulfilled on time.
Here's What We Know
In addition to Spain, the UK, Germany and Italy have been involved in the European fighter development programme. Secretary of State for Defence Maria Amparo Valcarce visited Milan, where she notified her partners of plans to order an additional batch of aircraft.
Spain bought two dozen fighter jets last year. The contract is worth €3bn and deliveries will start in 2026. If Airbus can meet the deadline, it will receive an additional contract.
Eurofighter Typhoon will replace American F/A-18 Hornet fighters, which have not been modified to EF-18. The Spanish Air Force has more than 60 EF-18 Hornets in service that have undergone Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU). Spain will also get rid of the McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II attack aircraft.
