Not just F-35 Lightning II fighters: Romania wants to buy an Abrams tank division from the US
Recently we wrote that Romania plans to buy F-35 Lightning II fighters from Lockheed Martin. Now there is information that the country's government is also considering buying Abrams tanks.
Here's What We Know
According to Major General Teodor Incicaș, head of the armament department of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, we are talking about a division of Abrams tanks. That is 54 units by NATO standards. This is the tank model chosen by the Romanian Army.
First the purchase must be approved by the country's parliament, and then by the United States. The tanks are planned to be purchased through an international procurement program (G2G) rather than directly from the manufacturer.
Unfortunately, what version of the Abrams was chosen by the Romanian armed forces is not known yet.
