Here's What We Know
According to the source, negotiations are at an advanced stage. If the contract is signed, deliveries of the armoured vehicles could start as early as next year. The value of the potential deal is estimated at A$3bn ($2.2bn).
The number of armored vehicles is not specified. It is noted that Australia itself has ordered 211 Boxer units, while Germany wants even more vehicles. German ambassador Markus Ederer said Germany's desire for the Boxer was dictated by the war in Ukraine.
The Boxer is a multi-purpose 8x8 armoured vehicle. The Boxer is designed to operate in areas of military conflict. Depending on its configuration, the vehicle can be used for troop transport, reconnaissance and ambulance services.
The armored vehicle has low radar and acoustic signatures, which makes it difficult to detect. The Boxer is armed with a 30-mm automatic cannon and will be equipped with Israel's Rafael's Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles.
