To replace the Ariete: Italy wants to buy 250 modern Leopard 2A7 tanks

The Italian armed forces want to acquire German Leopard 2 tanks.

The information was shared by the local publication Agenparl. It is about 250 tanks in the new Leopard 2A7 modification. The contract is estimated at approximately €8,000,000,000. Presumably, the German tanks will be a replacement for the Italian Ariete C1 tanks. The Italian army has 200 of these combat vehicles.

The Leopard 2A7 is the latest modification of the Leopard 2 tank. It was introduced in 2021. The Leopard 2A7 has the latest generation of passive armour. In addition, the tank supports additional modules with different types of protection. The main armament of the tank is Rheinmetall's 120mm Rh-120 L/55 smoothbore gun with a barrel length of 55 caliber. The Leopard 2A7 also boasts an advanced EMES 15 fire control system with stabilised sight and zoom capability.
