North Korea has again conducted missile tests in the Sea of Japan area. This time the DPRK tested strategic cruise missiles carried by the submarine 8.24 Yongung.

Here's What We Know

The DPRK said the Sinpo-class submarine 8.24 Yongung fired two strategic missiles. The purpose was to test weapons systems and practice offensive operations.

If North Korea's claims are to be believed, the two missiles flew 1,500km in 28 minutes and hit naval targets in the Sea of Japan. However, the United States and the Republic of Korea argue that the figures differ from those claimed by the DPRK. Overall, a range of 1,500km is enough to destroy US military bases in Japan.

The launch of two missiles from the submarine 8.24 Yongung is seen as a show of force amid the approaching U.S.-Republic of Korea joint exercises, which will be the largest in five years. It will begin today, March 13.
