Pentagon cancels likely hypersonic missile test at Cape Canaveral
A test of an unknown US rocket was due to take place at Cape Canaveral this month. However, it was cancelled by the US Department of Defense.
Here's What We Know
The launches were supposedly scheduled for 2-6 March 2023. This is indicated by the fact that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced an airspace closure.
Dr. Marco Langbroek, a lecturer at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, noted that the navigation warning painted a "bifurcated" flight path over the North Atlantic. This indicates that this is not a typical orbital launch. It is more likely to be a hypersonic missile test.
In any case, the test did not take place. The US Department of Defense said that the launch was cancelled after pre-flight checks were conducted. The Pentagon also noted that the delivery of hypersonic weapons is a top priority for the defence establishment.
