China has hypersonic missiles with a launch range of 1,600km that could destroy US military bases

The United States Department of Defense Intelligence reports that China has advanced in the development of hypersonic weapons and is already ahead of Russia. The PRC could now destroy US bases in the region.

Here's What We Know

The People's Republic of China has the capability to strike US bases in the Pacific Ocean with hypersonic missiles with a launch range of 1,600 km. This was reported by VICE, citing Paul Freisthler, an official at the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Freisthler recalled that the US, Russia and China are working on hypersonic weapons in order to have an advantage over other countries. This is due to the fact that modern air defences cannot counter hypersonic missiles.

China has managed to outstrip Russia in terms of infrastructure deployment and the number of systems. However, Paul Freisthler stressed that both countries have successfully tested their hypersonic designs.

In conclusion, we should add that the USA is also far advanced in the creation of weapons that can reach speeds of over Mach 5 (6174 km/h). Specifically, the AGM-183A ARRW will complete testing in 2023, and the US Army will adopt the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) by the end of the year.
