The UK has signed a contract with Sweden for the purchase of advanced Archer self-propelled artillery units.

The information was shared by the Swedish Ministry of Defence. The UK will purchase 14 units from BAE Systems. The contract amount and delivery dates have not been disclosed yet. Incidentally, the Archer SAU will replace the AS-90 SAU in the UK Army, which will soon be handed over to Ukraine.

The Archer is a modern Swedish 155mm self-propelled artillery unit based on Volvo A30D 6×6 chassis. It is produced by BAE Systems. The Archer is designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries and bunkers, as well as to provide passageways in minefields and field barriers. The SAU is operated by 3-4 people. It is capable of engaging targets up to 60 km away (depending on the projectiles).
