US Navy wants to decommission the newest USS Montgomery and USS Jackson due to oversupply of coastal warships

The United States Navy has received so many coastal ships that it has already begun to decommission them. It has recently been revealed that the Navy is preparing to scrap two ships that were commissioned less than 10 years ago.

The US Navy wants to scrap two Independence-class ships that were launched 10 years ago. They are the USS Montgomery (LCS-8) and USS Jackson (LCS-6). They were commissioned in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

The USS Montgomery (LCS-8) and USS Jackson (LCS-6) were expected to last for 25 years. However, the US Navy is seeking permission from Congress to decommission both ships in fiscal year 2024.

The reason is an oversupply of coastal warships. 15 Independence-class ships are needed to provide effective west coast defence, while the Navy has ordered 19 units. Two ships have already been decommissioned.
