North Korea has developed a nuclear-powered underwater drone. The state-run Central News Agency (KCNA) issued this statement.

Here's What We Know

The nuclear drone is designed to stealthily penetrate enemy operational waters. Once detonated, a radioactive tsunami is produced which destroys enemy strike groups and seaports. The yield of the nuclear weapon is not specified.

KCNA reports that the North Korean army has already successfully tested its drone. The exercise was observed by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The test took place this week and began on March 21, 2023. The military submerged the drone, where it remained for 59 hours and 12 minutes. The photo below shows the drone's movement near the surface of the water.

The North Korean nuclear drone was at a depth of 80-150 metres during the test. On March 23, 2023, it was detonated in Hongwon Bay off the country's east coast and successfully destroyed a naval port of a simulated enemy.
