The United States Department of Defence has published interesting photos showing the E-3 Sentry "elephant walk". The US Air Force took several planes into the sky at the same time.

Here's What We Know

For starters, let's note that an "elephant walk" is part of an exercise where several planes are lifted into the sky at the same time. Late last year, for example, eight B-2 Spirit nuclear bombers did the walk-through, which is 40 percent of the total strategic aviation fleet.

On March 21, 2023, Boeing E-3 Sentry long-range radar detection aircraft participated in the exercise. A minimum of seven aircraft from the U.S. Air Force's 552nd Wing simultaneously took to the skies at Tinker, Oklahoma.

The "elephant walk" is used to practice close formation flying skills and learn how to take a large number of aircraft off the airfield quickly. Such drills are usually conducted as part of crew training for military operations, when a group of aircraft may need to be lifted out of harm's way in an emergency.
