M1A1 Abrams tank deliveries to Ukraine will not disrupt production schedules for other customers
General Dynamics Land System has made sure that deliveries of tanks to Ukraine will not affect Abrams production schedules for other customers. This was announced by Gabe Camarillo, US Under Secretary of Defence.
Here's What We Know
The Pentagon announced last week that it would accelerate the transfer of M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. The US will be able to send the M1A1 fighting vehicles by autumn instead of the M1A2, which would have taken more than a year to deliver. As it became known, Ukraine will receive M1A1 SA-level Abrams tanks.
Work to prepare the combat vehicles for Ukraine will take place at the General Dynamics Land System plant in Lima, Peru. Gabe Camarillo stressed that the plant's capacity allows the addition of 31 tanks without affecting production.
The US Army and other customers will be able to receive their Abrams tanks on time. In particular, we are talking about neighbouring Ukraine, Poland, which signed a contract in early 2023 to supply 250 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 tanks.
