US Marine Corps sells AH-1W SuperCobra helicopters for less than $15m per unit

The US Marine Corps will be able to sell two dozen AH-1W SuperCobra helicopters. The buyer is Bahrain.

The US State Department has authorized the sale of 24 AH-1W SuperCobra units. The amount of the deal is estimated at $350 million, which means that the cost of one helicopter for Bahrain will be less than $15 million. And this amount includes delivery, personnel training, service maintenance and components.

The helicopters will improve Bahrain's ability to counter current and future threats. The Gulf state will be able to use the AH-1W SuperCobra to conduct maritime patrols, provide close air support and conduct search and rescue operations.

US authorities made a proposal to sell the surplus helicopters five years ago. The AH-1W SuperCobra was decommissioned in 2020. Note that to complete the sale, the deal must be approved by the US Congress.
