Britain's £85m F-35B fighter plane makes emergency landing in Norfolk due to technical problems
The pilot of an F-35B Lightning II fighter jet encountered technical problems while flying over north Norfolk. Because of this he had to return to base in an emergency.
Here's What We Know
The incident took place during an exercise in Norfolk. The Royal British Air Force's fifth-generation fighter plane made an emergency landing at Marham military airbase.
A Royal Air Force spokesman said the £85m plane had a technical fault during a training flight. The nature of the problem has not been established. The fighter jet landed successfully at the airbase. The pilot is all right.
It is worth recalling that the Royal British Air Force plans to eventually have over 100 fifth-generation aircraft. The service has received 31 fighters at this stage, but one aircraft crashed in 2021. The UK is the operator of the F-35B Lightning II short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft, which are deployed on the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
