SAIC has created a simulator for Javelin powered by Unreal Engine 4 that features a simulation for destroying a Russian T-72 tank
SAIC has created a new version of the Javelin anti-tank missile system basic skills training simulator. But the final version won't be available any time soon.
Here's What We Know
The new version of the simulator is based on Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4. It supports simulation for destroying the T-72 tank. During a demonstration of the new product at an event held by the US Army, one of the journalists managed to successfully hit the Russian fighting vehicle.
The current simulator was developed in 2001. More than 20 years have passed since then, so the simulator requires an update. SIAC has produced a total of 900 simulators. They are used to train soldiers not only in the US, but also in other countries. Training on a simulator is far less expensive than using real anti-tank missiles.
The new version, dubbed Block 1, won't be ready until two years from now. The company claims that the upgraded simulator is capable of providing a more realistic training experience with the Javelin anti-tank missile system.
To conclude, add that the US Army wants to ramp up production of anti-tank missiles and launchers to 330 and 41 units per month respectively. The entire plan of modernization of state-owned ammunition and weapons production facilities is designed for 15 years and is estimated at $18bn.
