US AH-64E Apache helicopter pilots receive X-Sight HMD super vision system
Elbit America has given the US military a super vision system called the X-Sight Helmet Mounted Display (HMD). The displays attach to a standard helmet. It all looks like a pair of huge insect eyes.
Here's What We Know
The X-Sight HMD is based on a similar design used by pilots of the fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters. The system allows you to concentrate on getting the job done rather than searching for the information you want on the cockpit displays.
X-Sight HMD is aimed at helicopter pilots. Particularly the AH-64E Apache. The super vision system will also be used by next-generation helicopter pilots. They are being developed under the Future Vertical Lift (VFL) programme.
Elbit America's new product allows for high-speed display of information from sensors, radars, LiDAR, external cameras and databases. The helmet allows the pilot to see in the dark and offers 360-degree visibility.
The X-Sight HMD also improves visibility during sand or snow storms, rain and fog. The system also displays environmental information along with status and flight conditions.
