UK purchases £4.6m Carl Gustaf M4 anti-tank grenade launchers
The UK has ordered a new batch of Carl Gustaf M4 hand grenade launchers. This was announced by the UK Ministry of Defence.
Here's What We Know
The contract, signed with Sweden's SAAB, cost £4.6m. In addition to the hand grenade launchers, the deal includes the purchase of additional ammunition and training for fighters.
The signing follows the UK's transfer of some of its own anti-tank ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The contract with SAAB will allow the British defence establishment to replenish stocks.
The UK has been a Carl Gustaf operator since the late 1960s, when the army received the M2 grenade launchers. The M4 version was announced in 2014. It weighs 6.8kg and is less than 1m long.
The Carl Gustaf M4 supports the use of programmable ammunition. The grenade launcher has an adjustable shoulder rest and an adjustable barrel grip support. Unlike other variants, the M4 can be carried loaded.
