The US Department of Defence has confirmed that the Russian T-90A tank will be delivered to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland
Last week, Louisinians could see the Russian T-90A tank being transported along the state's roads. It will be delivered to Maryland, where the Aberdeen Proving Ground is located.
Here's What We Know
Over the weekend, we wrote that the final destination of the T-90A was listed on the shipping tape as the US Army's Aberdeen Test Center. A few days later the US Department of Defence officially confirmed that the tank would be delivered there. This was announced by Pentagon spokeswoman Sue Gough.
The T-90A was seized by the Ukrainian Defence Forces in Kharkiv Region last autumn. The defence ministry did not comment on this information. The US Department of Defense, although it confirmed the final destination of the combat vehicle, refused to answer why the Pentagon needed the Russian tank. The T-90A has remained parked in the countryside for several days because of a malfunctioning tractor.
The US Army's Aberdeen Test Facility is being used to test equipment vulnerabilities and combat simulations. The military is likely to test how effectively the modern Russian tank will be able to withstand different types of US weapons. Experts will also be able to study the equipment installed inside the T-90A.
