US Army allocates $237m for first purchase of Coyote Block 2 systems and KuRFS radars to destroy drones up to 200km/h
The US Army has ordered systems to destroy drones with KuRFS radars. The development is called Coyote Block II, and the manufacturer is Raytheon.
Here's What We Know
Coyote Block 2 has already been approved for sale. The US Army has allocated $237 million for the first purchase. The system is part of the Howler program, which aims to create an effective low-altitude countermeasure against small unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Raytheon solution combines small missile launchers, a communications control system, KuRFS radar and a wheeled chassis. Coyote Block 2 can shoot down drones in a swarm that travel at up to 200km/h.
The radars deserve special attention. They can detect, identify, track air threats and provide a 360 degree view. The operating frequency is 12,000-18,000 Hz. KuFRS can be integrated into other drone suppression systems.
Neither the US Army nor Raytheon has disclosed the number of drone countermeasures systems ordered. Deliveries of the Coyote Block 2 will begin and end during the current year.
