A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft fly from Al Dhafra airbase in the Middle East
Last month, it was announced that the US would send A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft to the Middle East. They recently flew their first combat sortie in the region.
Here's What We Know
The first attack aircraft arrived in the US Central Command area of responsibility on 31 March 2023. The aircraft are stationed at Al Dhafra military airbase in the United Arab Emirates.
The first combat flight of A-10 Thunderbolt II was made on April 20, 2023. This was officially announced by US Central Command last weekend. The press release does not provide detailed information on the mission.
The A-10s are intended to bolster US air capabilities in the region. The attack aircraft will operate in conjunction with the fourth-generation F-15E Strike Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters.
