US sends more F-15E Strike Eagle fighters to Japan to support F-35 Lightning II
An additional batch of F-15E Strike Eagle fighters has arrived at Kadena Base on the Japanese island of Okinawa. This is part of an effort by the US Air Force to decommission obsolete F-15C/D aircraft.
Here's What We Know
Last year, the US Air Force began retiring F-15C/D aircraft that were based on Okinawa Island. Initially, the temporary replacement for them was the fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters. The US fighter jet presence on the island now provides the F-35 Lightning II and the F-15E Strike Eagle.
At the end of March, the F-35A planes arrived in Japan. A few days later, the US sent the first batch of F-15Es after them. Recently, the press service of the Kadena base reported the arrival of another group of F-15E fighters. The 391st Fighter Squadron from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, arrived in Okinawa.
The newly arrived fighters will operate in conjunction with other F-15Es, F-35s and the remaining F-15C/Ds that have yet to depart for the United States. This will ensure the US Air Force's continued combat readiness in the Indo-Pacific region.
