Northrop Grumman conducts fifth consecutive successful test of AGM-88G AARGM-ER extended-range missile
Northrop Grumman has successfully tested the AGM-88G Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile Extended Range (AARGM-ER). This marks the fifth consecutive successful test of the new weapon.
Here's What We Know
As part of the test, the missile successfully detected, identified, located and destroyed a ground target. Gordon Turner, one of Northrop Grumman's vice presidents, said the AGM-88G AARGM-ER demonstrated the ability to outperform enemy threats.
This year's test marks the fifth consecutive successful test of the new radar-guided missile. Northrop Grumman performed the previous test in late November last year. Then the missile successfully hit a sea target. Photo can be seen below.
The AGM-88G AARGM-ER will enter service with the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force. The new missile will be carried by the F/A-18 Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II fighters (all three versions).
The AGM-88G AARGM-ER is designed to destroy components of the enemy's air defense system. At the end of winter, it became known that the US Department of Defense wants a ground version of the missile.
