A US F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter plane crashed in the Republic of Korea. The crash happened last week. A few days after the crash, Korean TV channels showed video of the crash.

Here's What We Know

It is immediately noted that the pilot was able to eject. The incident took place near Osan Air Base. The crashed fourth generation fighter belonged to the 8th Wing, which is based at Kusan base.

The F-16 was carrying out routine daytime operations. After the crash, the press office of the 51st Fighter Regiment stated that the pilot was able to successfully eject, after which he was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. No injuries were reported.

Colonel Henry R. Jeffress, III, commander of the 8th Fighter Wing, said the U.S. Air Force does not yet have any further information regarding the crash. He said the service will set up an independent commission to review all the data and use it to determine the cause of the crash.

The video, which was published by the Korean media, shows the F-16 coming in for a landing at an acute angle. The plane then hit the ground at high speed and exploded. The pilot's parachute can be seen in the footage.

Pacific Air Force officials declined to comment on the video. The command decided not to confirm or deny its authenticity.

The crash in the Republic of Korea was the second loss of an American F-16 in 14 months. The first aircraft crashed last March in western Louisiana. The loss amounted to $27 million.
