US and allies plan to provide Ukraine with fourth-generation F-16 fighters
The Ukrainian Air Force will still receive fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. But they will not be used for the coming counter-offensive, as deliveries will take some time. And let's not forget about the need to train pilots.
Here's What We Know
The US and allies intend to provide Ukraine with F-16s, but it is not certain that the planes will come from the United States. The Ukrainian Air Force will receive US fighter jets as part of a long-term effort to strengthen the country's security. A senior US presidential administration official said this on Friday.
According to him, the discussions on strengthening the Ukrainian Air Force reflect a long-term commitment to Ukraine's defence. At the same time, the White House official did not answer a question about which countries would send the F-16s and when.
The news comes after Joe Biden told the G-7 leaders that the USA approves a training programme for Ukrainian pilots. It will begin in the coming weeks with the support of the Netherlands, Britain, Denmark, Belgium and will last for several months.
