A week and a half ago, Poland received its first batch of M142 HIMARS highly mobile artillery rocket systems. The second group of launchers did not have to wait long.

Here's What We Know

On May 15, a Ukrainian An-124 aircraft delivered five units of M142 HIMARS to Poland. The day before, Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced the arrival in Poland of two more Lockheed Martin highly mobile missile systems.

Along with the M142 HIMARS, Poland has received "other elements of the PATRIOT/IBCS system". The deliveries are carried out as part of the Homar and Wisla programmes, which aim to significantly strengthen Polish rocket artillery and air defence.

The contract for the M142 HIMARS was signed in 2019. Poland ordered 20 launchers, GMLRS high-precision projectiles and ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles worth $655 million. The HIMARS will go into service with the 1st Artillery Brigade, which is part of the 16th Mechanised Division.
