KMW reveals first demonstration of state-of-the-art Leopard 2A8 tank worth more than $30m
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has shown what the latest version of the Leopard 2 main battle tank will look like. The German company brought a Leopard 2A8 demonstrator to an arms exhibition in the Czech Republic.
Here's What We Know
The fighting vehicle features a new generation of innovative armour that combines ceramic, steel and tungsten. The Leopard 2A8 also features an additional set of passive armour and enhanced mine protection.
Another feature of the German tank is the use of Trophy active protection to intercept anti-tank missiles. Although the Israeli company Rafael in this case decided to call not Trophy, but EuroTrophy.
In conclusion, Germany has already decided to purchase Leopard 2A8 tanks. The first batch of 18 combat vehicles will cost around $565 million. In total Berlin is planning to invest over $3 billion in the purchase of 123 tanks. The Czech Republic would also like to order about 70 Leopard 2A8s.
